A placebo effect is the one in which a sick person is elevated to recuperation through a series of support factors that only increase a person's adaptability towards the ailment and eventually help him win the battle against low hope.
Thus a prayer goes a long way in clearing the path for a person's karma to take over the situation. It is just an initiation. The Karma still is the hero in getting a troubled person through.
A prayer takes two forms. First, pre-event and second post-event. The former is very common and exhibited by every individual. The latter attributes to very small number of individuals. A prayer after the desired event has taken place forms the groundwork for sustainability of actions and fulfillment of desires concomitant to the event.
Hope and prayer are namesakes. It just changes names for believers and atheists. Everyone is hopeful for something at some point in life. It is inherent in children. The concept of prayer lies thus universal, free from guilt, it always helps, while not granted it exudes a perpetual hope. The darkness of hopelessness never invades the bright light of prayer in all its glory.
